SUCCESS FOR ROLEX 24 TEAMS AT ROAR,
ARE YOU READY FOR YOUR SEASON?

The 2016 Rolex 24 ROAR test is in the books and teams that tested at ARC last year utilizing ARC's many testing capabilities from wind tunnel, CFD, 7-post and hybrid drivetrain rig, found the speed to raise confidence going into the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, which will run on January 24-25.
To be ready for the Rolex 24 and ROAR testing, the teams who came to ARC wrapped up their focused testing by mid-December. Several have already planned out their mid-season testing. With other racing seasons only a short time off, have you thought about your last pre-season prep and mid-season testing and protected your time at ARC to gain that advantage to boost your results?

ARC GROWS TIRE TESTING TECHNOLOGY WITH QUICK BUILD TIRES

ARC Pneumatic tires offer F1 level technology for the highest level of accuracy and detail, while carbon tires are the workhorse of the industry. The biggest drawback of both technologies is the long lead times required to make tires. In order to increase the range of flexibility when testing the effects of tires and decrease upfront model build times and costs, ARC has designed and validated rapid prototype tires that can be built in only a few days.
Having gone through a research and development program, ARC has designed tires that can withstand forces during wind tunnel testing and be used without being overly bulky or expensive. By using rapid prototyping a larger number of tire, treads, profiles, width, and diameter can be tested in a single wind tunnel test. ARC 's next step is testing a complete assembly of both rapid prototyped tires and rims.

GHG2 IS COMING, AERODYNAMIC TESTING PROGRAMS UNDERWAY

GHG2, the next phase in government standards is coming. With the government taking final feedback, ARC is gaining a broad understanding of what the regulations will look like. OEM tractor and trailer manufactures are going to need to certify multiple configurations cost effectively. Scale testing offers the most efficient option to meet these regulations.
With an extensive library of scale model tractors and trailers, ARC provides a cost effective way to accurately categorize specific configurations, find out where efficiency levels stand and learn if improvements need to be made to satisfy GHG2 regulations. ARC has already booked eager OEM tractor and trailer manufacturers to complete this process.

TECH ZONE

What tools do I need to bring to a 7-post Test?

Testing on the 7-post is similar to testing on the track and ARC recommends you bring the following tools:

  • Wheel gun
  • Steering rack stop
  • Tire pressure gauge
  • Alternative springs
  • Dampers sets and/or the ability to re-valve existing ones
  • Quick lift or Hydraulic Jack (to help maneuver the car onto the rig)
  • Specialized Tools (especially any specialized tools to work on the car)
  • Infrared pyrometer (to measure damper and tire temperatures during a test)
ARC has many of these items at the 7-post facility in case you forget something.

TECH ZONE is an additional area of our newsletter where each month a customer question will be answered by the related expert at ARC. Please send in any questions you might have, from wind tunnel test instrumentation, CFD workings,to tuning your shocks.
