ARC OVER DELIVERS ON JAC SUV PROGRAM

ARC has successfully concluded an SUV aerodynamic development program with JAC. Achieving more gains than originally required. Using CFD and a quick build 40% scale model, ARC completed the program in under three months.
Using ARC's jointly developed CFD software, ELEMENTS Analyze with Adjoint solver, combined with scale model rolling road wind tunnel testing, ARC was able to deliver over 10% drag reduction. ARC CFD and wind tunnel results correlated very well with drag predictions on average within 1.5%.

The program was successfully concluded when ARC presented an in depth report to JAC in China. The original requirement of 10.0% drag reduction was easily met and surpassed. We look forward to continuing to work with Asian Auto Manufactures to help improve global fuel savings..

ARC LEADING INDUSTRY IN 33' TRAILER TESTING DEVELOPMENT

ARC is helping to push the forefront of commercial truck development with work on 33' twin trailers. ARC has built 33' twin trailer wind tunnel scale models in anticipation of passage of the DOT funding bill which will allow for commercial carriers to the advantage of this increased dual trailer length. This new model is avilable for use by fleets, OEMs and aftermarket suppliers to increase aerodynamic efficiency.

Aerodynamic improvements, when combined with the 18% increase in carrying capacity, will result in enormous fuel savings and decrease in greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, ARC has the capability of durability testing any aerodynamic devices, using it's durability verification protocol.

TECH ZONE

What kind of testing and what is the accuracy of ARC's Aerodynamic Bicycle Test Facility?

The new ABT (Aerodynamic Bicycle Test) facility at ARC, offers a large range of benefits and items that can be tested.

Possible test items for manufactures include:
  • Bike Frame Shape
  • Wheel Design
  • Handlebars
  • Gear Shifters
  • Clothing Materials
  • Helmet Shape
For Individual and Team Cyclists:
  • Rider Position
  • Water Bottle Placement
  • Comparison of OEM and Aftermarket Bikes and Add-ons
For accuracy, the bicycle test facility allows both rider on and rider off testing, with a resolution as low as 0.25 Watts. Testing numbers obtained can directly be used to provide sales with number validation and improve performance times for cyclists.

TECH ZONE is an additional area of our newsletter where each month a customer question will be answered by the related expert at ARC. So, please send in any questions you might have, from wind tunnel test instrumentation, CFD workings,to tuning your shocks.
